Brights triggering when using Turn signal stalk
Brights triggering when using Turn signal stalk
Hi folks!
Few days ago I turn my lights on, and the brights are on....
I try to click them off, doesn't work.
Click a few times and they're off.
Then I use the turn signal and the brights come back on.
It's like there's a short in the wire maybe in the turn stalk?
Any ideas on fixing, OR - if anyone else has done it, how tough and expensive is it to switch it out?
It's starting to "yellow" so I'd like to swap it out anyway.

Thanks!

I just replaced mine for the same problem
It's pretty easy.
Make sure you get the right part (with or without OnBoardComputer)
Either part is about $85, 2 torx screws to take off the tach mount, then
2 screws on the lower steering column trim, peel out the ignition
rubber ring, and 1 philips screwholds the switch in. Simple swap, and
use care putting the 2 screws in the column trim, or you'll strip the
threads.

Did your u see what was wrong with yours when you took it off?
feel bad every time I switch lanes, I keep flashing everyone in front of me.
Makes me look like a total jerk.

And, while I'm at it - are there any aftermarket stalks that have the same effect that a newer Cooper has, meaning, you push slightly to the left or right giving 4 blinks for changing lanes and shuts back off?
With OBC that is....

I didn't take it apart, but it had loosened up a little over the
years (2003 R50). I figured out how to baby it and avoid
triggering the brights most of the time, and how to get them
off by pushing it just so (but sometimes only turning the lights
on and off would work) and after a couple months I got tired of
that and replaced it and now it's fine and has that firmer new
feel to its action.
