How to reset r55/r56 Check Engine Light?

So I recently fixed a bunch of broken valves in my new-to-me 2008 Clubman S, and want to reset the CEL, but I don't want to pay some dealer $100 to do it. Is there a way to do it myself, or will it go away on its own given time/miles?

It may go away on its own, but the codes stay stored until cleared. You'll need a diagnostic tool to reset the code(s) or you might be able to ask someone on here that is in your area if they can reset it for you.

How would I go about finding that kind person in my area? Should I start a new thread? I live in the Apex area, near Raleigh, NC.

Try posting a thread in a busier section of the forum. Maybe HERE. Title the thread something like asking if anyone can help you or loan you an OBDII tool. Some might even chime in with some other options as well.

You can get a code reset tool like a actron unit ( at local places ) and reset the trouble codes through the OBD2 port

Yea, I realize that now. The codes kept coming back I guess because the engine was way out of time. Also, the check engine light went away once the car was put back together properly.
