half yellow engine light without error codes
half yellow engine light without error codes
When i step on the throttle, around 4000rpm, i get overboost which is fine. After that though, when i lift my foot from the pedal as the car slows down, i get a half engine yellow light. The car i believe gets in limp mode and i cannot get overboost, generally it seems as if the car has lost its power.
If i pull over, shut down the engine and start up again, the yellow engine light disappears and driving power is back again, but only just for once because if i push it, the same story happens (yellow half engine, lack of power, no overboost etc.) until i shut down engine again etc.
There is no error code diagnosed when using Torque from my smartphone, isnt this strange?

^ this. You need to either take it to a Mini independent or the dealer to get the codes. Not much troubleshooting can be done without them..
if you'd rather not take it to the dealer just yet, I ran into a similar situation recently and found as you did torque does not read the BMW/MINI codes outside of the standard OBD-II stuff, but if you want to spend a bit more money the 'carly for BMW' (previously known as BMWhat) app and adapter will read those other codes. I've been using it for a few months. (there's a few threads about it on here like here and here)
there's also bavTech i opted not to go with it as there wasn't too much information about it's capabilities on the r56, it required a laptop, an was about 3times as much as 'carly'.
good luck, hope you find the solution quickly!

It could be your diverter valve mounted to the turbo housing, if it's leaking you losing boost pressure hence loss of power. Every time you decelerate the DV is suppose to open.

Error codes are 100% there, you are just using the wrong tool to read them. You have two choices:
1). Take the car to a MINI mechanic - independents will usually read the codes for free, dealer will likely charge you for 1+ hours of "labor".
2). Buy a proper ODB2 code reader. Cobb AccessPorts (used only at this point) or one of many others.
Please don't throw parts at the guesses as to what the problem might be, as it will be get very expensive and very frustrating first. Read the codes, then tackle the problem!

Can you please be more specific to what model you suggest for scanning from the OBD2 port?
You'll probably pay more for the scanning tool than getting your Mini diagnosed.

There has to be something out there that's cheaper, but this one both scans/resets the codes, as well as upgrades the DME programming.
YMMV,
