Tensioner Question

I replaced the timing chain tensioner on my 2009 MCS with the new model. The original was not tight and was seeping oil. Should I expect the new one to back out over time and require periodic tightening?

Not if you installed it with Loctite on clean threads. Also, you need to replace gasket with a new one each time tensioner is removed and replaced.

...and hopefully your chain isn't stretched or your guides worn/broken. That'll add to the headache.

OK thanks, didn't use thread lock so I'll keep an eye on it. I hope that the chain and guides are OK, time will tell. I will be prepared to replace the entire assembly when needed but if I bought a few more years for $37 I will be happy.

The old tensioner didn't have thread lock on it and I did not see that recommendation in my research. Seems like a great idea.

No, with the threads clean and proper torque applied to the tensioner you should not have an issue. Spec on it is 45 ft lbs, we usually add a bit extra to ensure it doesn't back out over time.

The newest tensioner has a little bump on the back of the hex head for the stock size 78mm ~895 part. And then just torque to that set amount. Should be fine.
