A/C failure/window malfunction

i just spent an hour searching this and did not come across anything, but i may have missed it somewhere..so apololgies if i did....anyways..today drove to work, everthing workin' fine, as i'm walking out to the car around 5:30 this afternoon i notice that my windows are almost halfway down, the sunroof is flipped up ( 1st button press position )....i had closed both the windows and sunroof before i exited the car this morning...did not drive it all day...and here's the kicker... when i got in and drove away i noticed that the A/C has quit working! i can't even get the blower to come on! ( manual ); it was working fine & cold this morning , it's getting juice to the dash controls ( lights ) and i've checked every fuse both in the kickpanel and under the bonnet that has an A/C symbol,,,when i turn on the a/c there's a mechanical sound that originates from around the glove box area....maybe the recirculating vent opening/closing...but no blown air..nada...i've tried reseting both from the odometer & disconnecting/letting sit... the battery..nada it's an 10/03 build MCS w/auto air with 6500 mles on it...and it's a daily driver....do any of you guys know if there's maybe a reset circuit breaker for the blower motor? and where it may be located if there is one? this is so weird and perplexing, especially the windows thing! any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Probably some sort of bizarre wiring harness failure and not much to do but get it to the dealer so they can hunt down the gremlins. . . .

It's not a fuse/relay

There have been posts about windows/sunroofs magically opening while the car is parked and off. I believe in all cases these have been due to the computer/wiring failures as Yucca states. It's highly unlikely that your problem is "just a relay" or a fuse...if the A/C blower was the only failure, maybe...but not with your windows as a related/concurrent symptom.

The MINI's electrical system is a mysterious and complicated beast. Get to the dealer...that's what they're for. Good luck!

Honestly, it sounds to me like a Body Module Control (Computer) problem than an actual electrical issue. Take it back to the dealer and let them properly diagnose it.

well it looks like you guys are right..i a/b'd the relays ( known working / suspect ) and found no anomolies....i checked the compressor clutch...it's fine... this wouldn't be so bad if the dealer wasn't so far away. ... it would have to be right in the dead of summer...yes i'd like a faulty wiring harness/BMC... and ummm a sharp poke in the eye to go please

How far is your dealer?

My 9/03 build '04 MCS has been rock solid so far after 10,200 miles. I have the manual A/C controls and no sunroof. I figured that not getting the Premium Pack would meant less things to go wrong and $$$ savings.

I still think the prime suspect of your problem is the BCM module. I doubt the wiring harness is a culprit as you could be experiencing a whole host of other issues.

Go to MINI2.com and do a serach to see if anyone else has experienced a BCM problem on a recent build MINI.

just got back from Century Mini....it was the blower motor (A/C ) that failed and of course it wasn't in stock... the window /sunroof thing was attributed to the what they called a " BC1 " problem... anyways they gave? me a loner ( a piece of crap camry w/ really bad brakes!) that wasn't really even a loner ...i had to sign a rental agreement, take out extra insurance and have to make sure it has the same amount of gas in it as what was in it when i picked it up! oh! i asked about programming the auto unlock feature... i was quoted $80!!! or i was told to take it back to mini of charleston ( who by the way completely drop the ball on my prep ie didn't prog correctly, overfilled the brake fluid, car was filthy )..to get it done for either much less or free!!! iwas told that it was $80 /hr rate on the programming...this is some BS...ilet ya'll know tommorrow how the repair went...dang!

Grrrrrrrr.......how do some dealers get away with this stuff! After such a huge failure with your MINI.....regardless of what dealer you're at...the least they could do is program your auto unlock. SO simple!! Cm'on, its only got 6,500 miles on it!!!!!

I don't know...next time take some donuts along.

well it was more stuff.... replaced " body control module per bulletin ".. a resistor also had to be replaced ( the hedgehog perhaps? ).. the recirculation flap servo motor...which by the way "had to" be ordered ( why didn't they order it at the same time they ordered the blower motor? i wonder... they had the car for 2 days...i'm thinking somebody broke something in the removal/install of the dash ) there was a tear in the the center silver ring of the MFSW like a screw driver or something had poked it ( their going to replace it ) they rotated/ balanced my wheels and tried to charge me $69...i had been quoted $45..so i pitched a ***** on that one...they came down to $45... i now have a couple of new dings in one of the s-lites ; oh and they washed it but didn't wipe it down!! the whole car is covered in water spots!!! asked them about the speed sensing control adjustment in the radio ( i had tried to access it through the tone linear setting but it's not there...just nav. and reset?) the mini radio guy and me surmised that the HK radio must be void of it...though he could not give me a definitive answer on that or show me anything written ( is it in the latest manual? )....he did however inform me ( after i inquired about the mini being taken off of the bmw website) that they had just received a service bulletin stating there was a problem with the ipod adapter for the mini!!! and that a fix was in the works.... I had them install V.38.. first, they told me they didn't have it. ( i then told them i had just got off of the phone with mini usa). BOOM! said they had yet to load it on the computer and that i would be the first they had done w/v.38..so i said lets get it on!....so my car was the guinea piglet!...lots of goofs !!...my key fob no longer works , no auto-leveling of the xenons , no DRL's...and who knows what else..BUT ( the one good thing that has come out of all of this! ) the car is driving better that it ever has (10/03 build MCS )!..IE. it used to idle at 1100 rpm's ..now down to 800. it starts on the first turn now ( usually took 2 turns of the key ) i didn't have bad stumble but you could feel it in your pants at half throttle in 2nd, 3rd...GONE!! smooth!!....while sitting warmed up , at idle, i could go to WOT and it would balk...GONE!...i now have some horses when the a/c is running!! though it still sucks the power hard, taking off from dead start ,it's now got some juice in 2,3,4,5,6!!!....the cruise control went from as much as a 9mph diff. to less than 2!!...and this may sound weird but the exhaust sounds..umm sweeter?....i have to go back when the recir flap servo comes in and i'll post the results ...ps. since they took off the dash my center vent now rattles...

Don't forget to tell your dealer to properly program everything to your liking this time.

When V38 was installed, I think all the settings were reset to the default setting. That is why you lost your DRL, etc. Since they have to plug the computer in to program these items one by one, tell them you want auto unlocking also. If you are worried that they may want to charge you, just tell them you want everything restored to your original setting, including auto unlock.
