Steering twitch while parked
Steering twitch while parked
Hi all,
When when parking my 2008 R56S the other day, the steering wheel started twitching and making a strange crackling or other electrical sounding noise. Even with no hands on the wheel, in certain positions it was doing this so I recorded it. See linked video and turn up the volume to hear the noise.
I am worried that this is a sign of a future failure of the steering system, perhaps at highway speeds!
I have searched the forums for similar and came up with nothing.
Any info or suggestions regarding this are welcome.

There's something going on with the electro-mechanical steering assembly.
Have you scanned the car with a Bavarian Technic scanner to see if there's current faults with the steering?

I don't have the scan tool and it is an intermittent thing. I agree it seems electrical. Do you mean the tool could determine if there is a short or something? I am hesitant to go to the dealer because they might just come up with a fix-all like replacing the whole rack...
