TPMS receiver locations
TPMS receiver locations
I've got a 2008 R56, and my TPMS has been telling me a tire is low, but they're not. I brought it to a tire shop and had them scan the tires and all 4 are sending a signal as they should. I've tried resetting the system repeatedly, but it doesnt reset. This started right after I had the head gasket replaced, so I'm thinking someone forgot to plug a receiver back in, but for the life of me I can find any info as to where the individual receivers are.
As far as I know, theres a receiver for each tire (I could be wrong), probably in the wheel well, and they're all connected to the main unit in the rear hatch compartment (which is working properly). I've seen a number of diagrams showing the parts, but none actually direct you to the receivers actual location.
Anyone got an idea, or am I just way off base here?

I pulled the wheel liner and found this little black box sitting in the front of the wheel well, it looks like theres supposed to be a 3 pin connector plugged into it, but there isnt, and I cant find the plug either...can anyone verify that this is the TPMS receiver?
edit: found the connector, both front tire receivers were unplugged. Why they unplugged them in the first place is beyond me, but never the less I have a functional TPMS again.

Not sure why someone might unplug them...one thought...
If the tpms sensors are orgional to the car...from 2008....the batteries may be weak or dead...or will be so on...so keep an eye on them!!

If I were a conspiracy theorist, I'd say they unplugged them on purpose to squeeze a bit more money out of me...but I'm not, so I'm guessing when they did the head gasket they put the front end in service mode and the wire harness was too short so they unplugged the TPMS receivers.
As for the batteries in the tire sensors, they just have to last another couple weeks so I can sell the dang thing...I dont like the idea of making someone else replace them, but I am DONE with this car and spending money on it.

Yep, you got it. Theres a plastic tab on the top of the plastic shroud that holds the receiver in place, a screwdriver pops it up. There's also another tab in the front side of the shroud under the headlight that keeps the receiver to slide backwards. I removed the headlight to gain access to the tab, but you may be able to reach it without taking the light off.
The plug itself is a bit of a pain to get back on, took a fair amount of pressure to get it to seat to the receiver. You may be able to get the plug to seat without removing the receiver.

Thank you. Have a great night. Sorry you had a bad MINI experience. Definately has ups and downs.
Have fun,
Mike

No problem!
I got a pretty raw deal with the Mini, my own fault for not inspecting it close enough, but I've dumped about $5K into the car in less than 2 years. If it wasnt such a fantastic car to drive, I wouldve wrapped it around a tree long ago.
