Near Stall

I have a 2003 Mini, manual, with DSC. Bought the car in late 2002, now has about 25K miles. First month I owned the car, no problems. After about a month, it started to develop this condition where it nearly stalls coming up to a stop. It has never actually stalled, but you can see the RPMs dip to 500 and the car sputters before it comes back up to 800 RPM at idle.

I've had it to the dealer twice, in late 2002 and early 2003 for new software downloads, but they did not change the problem. I've had the problem all times of the year, several times a day, every second or third stop. It does seem to be more pronounced when the engine is cold, in cold weather, or under load (like when the A/C is on and the fan is blowing).

So, while not a severe problem, it's most annoying in a new car, and I'm looking for suggestions... thanks in advance, Rich

thanks
