Service Engine Light On
Service Engine Light On
Just wondering-- my "Miles to next service" counter is now at zero, and my Service Engine Soon light has come on. Is it because of I've reached zero? And if so, how can I reset it?
I'll pull the code when I get home tonight, but if this could be the reason the light came on, I won't spend all day worrying about it. :/

probably both to yes.
sometimes the dealer resets that counter if they remember, an indy shop probably wont. its easy to do, just dont know the button sequence off the top of my head.
you can probably reset your counter, then after like 5 engine cycles (on / off) the engine light will go away if the code is gone.

If the miles to service is zero and the service indicator light (SIL) is on it is because it us service time ...e.g., oil change.
They are related. To reset the SIL you:
To Reset Service Indicator Lights (SIL)
Sit in car, close door and turn ignition on.
Press and hold trip reset button for 10 seconds.
The upper display in the tach will be illuminated with a service item.
The lower display in the tach will indicate the remainder left for that service item.
Pressing the BC (board computer) button repeadtedly on the end of the turn signal stalk will allow the display to scroll through all of the condition based service items.
To Reset, press and hold the BC button again and the lower screen will indicate reset.
Pressing the BC button only resets the item displayed in the upper window only.
Repeat the procedure for any additional service reset needs.
That do it...
Motor on!

Okay, that worked for resetting the service interval, but the SIL is still on, and now in the 1 key position is says "inspection" and then on the right the service interval 15500. What now?
I don't think the service interval triggers the SES light. Get an OBDII reader and see what the code is. Alternatively, if it's not serious, it should go off after a few cycles. My SES has triggered a few times because of a misfire.
The "inspection" is just a more involved level of service in addition to an oil change. It's letting you know that for your next 'service'.

Thanks Eric. I pulled a P0456 code for a very slight emissions leak. I could be the o-ring on my gas cap as it's fairly cracked. I cleared the code and if it comes back will replace the cap to see if that takes care of the issue.
Appreciate everyone's help!

A check engine light is triggered by a fault code, NOT an overdue oil change or inspection....
My neighbor's scooby gives the 'slight emission leak' fault code a few times a year. I just clear it and move on. Always scary to see that red light, though. Glad you're back in business.
