Fuel Tank Vent Valve Location
Fuel Tank Vent Valve Location
Where's the fuel tank vent valve (also called purge vavle?) on my 2010 Mini? Yeh, it's probably a dumb question, but the location isn't shown on the info I have.
I keep getting fault code P2418 -- open circuit in the evap system. It's supposed to be an electrical problem, not a leaky gas cap or bad pump.

Here some more info.

Most likely check the gas cap first:
Gas Cap ( newest version ). Part #16117222391

Then, check the leak diagnosis pump.

Fuel Tank Vent Valve Location
I've already checked the cap and replaced the pump, probably needlessly, since code P2418 keeps coming back. Anyway, it says it's an electrical issue, not a mechanical problem.
So, back to my original question -- where's the fuel tank vent valve located? I think it's also called the purge valve. Other than the pump and a computer, it appears to be the only electrical component in the evap system.

I need to replace the fuel tank vent valve (aka purge valve) on my wife's 2010 Mini Cooper Coupe. Just the base model. Is it definitely under the intake manifold? I need to replace it today. Don't have a shop manual unfortunately, but looks pretty simple. Just two hose connections and one electrical connection. Just need to find the damn thing!

Found the fuel tank breather valve. After reading numerous posts stating that the intake manifold needs to be removed to access the breather valve, uhhhhhh, I discovered that at least on a 2010 base Coupe, THE INTAKE MANIFOLD DOES NOT HAVE TO BE REMOVED! I went through all that trouble just to discover that the valve is just hanging off the rear of the intake manifold on a small steel bracket. Just slip it off the bracket, undo the two hose clamps and the one electrical connection. VERY VERY EASY. Anyway it's changed and the engine runs like brand new. Super stable idle and very smooth acceleration. If you have an unstable idle problem and around 49k miles on your engine, the fuel tank breather valve is the likely culprit.
Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm getting the SES light and a "Close Gas Cap" message. It was on when I bought the car. The PO started getting the code right before I bought it. He replaced the gas cap and cleared the code with his generic Harbor Freight code reader but the SES light stayed on. When I got it I plugged my Foxwell code reader into it and cleared out all the old stored codes. Put a couple hundred miles on it since I did that, got the "close gas cap" message, but it didn't trigger the SES light and went off after a few minutes of driving. This morning, I got the gas cap message again and a SES light. I'm going to plug my reader back into the car tonight when I get home from work but I'm assuming it's going to be the same 27AC code I cleared out last week. Since the gas cap is new, would the Leak Diagnostic Pump be the next likely culprit? Or would it be the Fuel Tank Vent Valve that is under the intake manifold?
Also, not sure if this matters but both the time the gas cap message came on without the SES getting triggered and this morning when they both came on, it was a little chillier than the other mornings when it didn't. Most of the mornings Ive driven to work in the last week we were in the mid to upper 30's and this morning I was reading 29* on the dash.
