Sporadic Hatch Functionality

The hatch will sometimes open and sometimes close. Other times it just slams and bounces (receiver mech won't lock it shut). I must've fiddled with it and tried closing it 10 times before i turned the car on and drove, shut it with the car on and it finally stayed closed. Go to drive and hear it pop itself open 15 seconds after it latched. Closed it again and it finally seems to stay shut.

I searched and found many similar situations but none with resolution after replacing electronics or chrome for black hook. Mine is already black, by the way.

I'm guessing that this issue came up after a car wash, rain etc. if so, you are getting water corrosion inside the boot handle, there is a micro switch that when it gets wet it will open your trunk, is funny but mine was opening when I turned on the parking light while the car was off lol. You may need to replace the seal that bonds the boot handle with the body, dry clean the electrical connections and use electric/bulb grease, also if you don't have the lic plate light cover is a good idea to get those as well

Yea you could get it at ECS or the Dealer there is a DIY around I just can't find it . It's a 10 or 20 bucks part but if the micro switch is gone you will have to buy the whole handle, about 80.00 while taking out the handle to disconnect the wiring don't pull too hard if you don't see it, you may need to take the boot inner plastic to reach it. Maybe not

Before you go through the trouble..feel for a rubber seal seal/membrane that covers the open switch....if that is there...opening it up...cleaning with contact cleaner.... Then reinstalling...I used some liquid "form a gasket" on top of the spent foam factory gasket a few YEARS AGO..made it thicker..like when new...and reinstalled.... No issues.
If that rubber cover is gone or torn....best option is get a new handle....sold in either chrome or primed for painting....

Interesting. I have contact cleaner and dielectric grease so that's no problem and my cover is still perfectly in tact. So you pulled the handle, covered your gasket in RTV and re-installed??

No problem, like I said there is chance that you may have to take the panel off if you can not reach the connector don't force it out. Good luck
