R50/R53 rear washer leaks into hatch

My Gen 1 MINI's rear washer has gotten a little weak, and I noticed that
it's also dribbling out the bottom of the hatch (on the inside) and running out
onto the bumper, so there must be a leak inside the hatch somewhere.

Before I start taking off all the inside hatch trim (and I better wait for a little
warmer day or I'll probably crack most of the trim clips) I was wondering if
someone else had some experience with how things are routed and hooked up.
The Bentley manual is quite lacking in this spot, and the realoem pages are
a bit limited as well here. I suspect a hose or connector has partly worked its way loose or has cracked. I guess I'll find out when I get in there.

Anyway, maybe someone who's been there before can shed some light on this.

Here is a link to a rear wiper delete how to.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...VtM9HvhOFc/pub

The instructions are the same as if you were just trying to access the motor. It's very simple. Just take your time with the clips, and yes, warmer is always a little better on plastic.

If it turns out you need a new motor, etc... I actually purchased this kit, and still have a working motor, arm, and blade I could sell if you need to save some $ off buying a brand new one.

Thanks. That helps. I've seen some rear wiper delete threads before, but my brain wouldn't
retrieve that info and make the connection without your reminder.

haha no problem. i actually had to search to find the how to, even after having done it less than a year ago.

unfortunately they dont detail disassembly of the motor (if thats even possible. ive never looked into it) but at least you know its easy to get to.

i really prefer the delete, being that i never used the rear wiper but a handful of times. might be something to consider as an even cheaper alternative to motor replacement if yours is shot.

good luck.

Motor is ok. I actually use the rear wiper a bit plus the washer, too.

Well, I took off the rear hatch lower trim, and the leak is where the plastic fitting
at the end of the hose presses onto the inner nipple. This part slides onto the gear case
cover (which comes off easily with 5 tiny torx screws), but I don't think you can get
this part separately from the whole motor assembly.
Anybody know about this?

Anyway, I think I'll try some Teflon pipe tape to snug it up and see if that works.
If there was a rubber washer or seal in there, it must have totally disintegrated.

Edit: there is a rubber insert (I originally thought it was all just one piece)
but it's too worn to seal well. A little teflon tape around the nipple and between
the insert and the outer part worked ok at sealing the connection while still allowing
the mechanism to rotate.

I had the same problem, I took the 5 torx screws off it does release the part that it leakng, underneath is just gearing. I slid out the offending part, and it looks like the rubber has perished, I will try to fix ,it guves me some to do, but think I may just purchase the delete kit.

I had to take my motor apart not too long ago but it was because pipe inside the motor that the washer passes through had rusted shut, had to drill it out and now it works fine.
