Unspecified maintenance due?

Hi,

My car is just about to turn 30,000 miles. The little car on a lift icon says I have 70 miles till service, which is of course, when it turns 30k. I stepped through the individual lights/indicators:

Front brakes - 1100
Rear brakes - 1400
Oil - 6000
Coolant - 11/14

So thats it, there is nothing pending that I can see. Why is the service light on, is there some generic catch all 30k mile service? The oil was changed when I bought the car from a dealership, about 4k miles ago.

If it's a 2012, you should still be eligible for "free" service. Let the dealer figure out what needs doing.

It's probably an inspection of some kind.

There is also some time based service required like the brake fluid needs changed every 2 years. All of these should show up in the service menu on the OBD.

The lift icon is something like a 60-point inspection. Mine goes in tomorrow for that exact service item.

I got you beat, though. My little lift icon is red and reads -800km (dealer told me it is easily put off). Car is serviced by an authorized Mini dealer and they told me it's not a critical service. I've got 120,000km on the clock and it's the first time this light has appeared.

I think basically what they do is check for leaks, mounts, suspension, bearings, etc... From what they tell me it's not expensive, either.

Just an inspection to look things over and no service is usually performed. Looking for bad hoses, belts, leaks, etc.

On the same topic, is the timer on the red "mini on a lift" service indicator something I can change on my own? Asked my SA last time I was there because I do all my own work, he goes "those lights and warnings can not be reset by anyone but a dealer. We reset them when doing the service. If you want us to just make sure you did a service and reset it for you, it would be $60".....

That statement is incorrect about only the dealer being able to reset those. I purchased the software, tho expensive, and can pull codes and reset them. Maybe someone local to you has software to do the same.

See the red above.

Brake fluid every 2 years, coolant every 4 years. Inspection every 30k miles.

You can reset any service indicator yourself. (Brakes require a new sensor once they are activated)

You can't change the interval.
