"Creak" in my Steering Column

My power steering in my 04' S works just fine, however, there is a quiet creaking noise in the steering column that I hear while inside the car when driving at low speeds. Kinda weird and a little annoying, just wondered if anyone has experienced this as well...

I appreciate any thoughts! Cheers

Yep, that what it sounds like. You can also get the sticky U joint on the bottom, that makes it hard for your wheel to return to center, makes the steering tight to return.

Thanks

Gotcha...yeah that must be it. (And here I thought it was my 6' 225llb frame pulling on the steering wheel every time I get out! Lol)

Thanks guys for the info!

Cheers

Nope! New part as listed here and still makes the same noise................
Ironically the lower joint did have some play so I was optimistic about it until the job was completed and she still groaned like a bull frog.

Did you ever find out what this was? Mine started this after 3 weeks of ownership amongst host of other issues

Sounds like the Strut Tower Mounts to me. There is more strain at low speed turning the wheel that will make them groan and creek. I used to have that problem when parking, changed the mounts out when I got new struts, no more noise........The OP stated there was a creaking sound, which is different from a groan, if your front end is groaning, check the PS Fluid level first. Does it groan or creak?

+1 check the strut mounts if the steering part has already been replaced.

Check for cracks on the mount, that way you know if you have to change them anyway.

I have to go through my records but I think the steering pump was replaced under warranty few years back.

But my creaking is at all speeds not only slow speeds.

This what was making the sound in my car. A little squirt of some lithium grease and the sound was gone

I replaced my U joint a couple of months ago. It was without a doubt bad. I changed it because a sound from turning the wheel, but, most primarily, because my steering is so hard in the car. Unfortunately, there was little change in the hard steering.

Did you check the rack itself and also is the power steering pump working good?

Found what my noise was

Mine turned out to be strut tower mounts failed. No noise on hoist but on ground it creaked when turning wheel. Visible to check in engine bay. I thought it was steering the whole time. Took a second person listening with hood up while turning to pin point, but is very visible anyway if I hadn’t been thinking steering
