Aircon issues

Hello again, separate thread for separate problems
If my aircon is gassed, doesn't seem to be leaking, but it's not blowing out cold air, what else could be the problem?

Thanks

D

I had this problem a while ago. My oil was very low and I think the car was smart enough to not allow the air-con to work. Maybe check to see if you need to top up your oil? Once I had topped mine up the air-con worked fine again.

Try these two tips for a/c output that seems weak.

1 - pre-cool the car. Drive with the windows down for about 2 min. This will greatly reduce the heat load on the interior. Remember the car is not just cooling you down, its cooling down the entire dash, seats, carpet, glovebox... etc..

2 - Run with the recirc on. Re-cooling the same air over and over is far more efficient than bringing in hot humid outside air.

3 - If neither of them help, have it checked out.

Thanks. I'll check the oil level, I know these cars do burn through it but I'm fairly sure I'm topped up. I'm thinking it might be related to compressor or air con clutch? Both terms I've read on the forums but not in enough detail to self diagnose.

If it is holding charge, but no cold air, it is most likely something with the compressor (either the clutch or the compressor unit itself). If you run the car on full cold with the hood up, you should be able to hear the compressor engage and disengage as the suction and discharge pressures in the system change. Any local shop should be able to help you diagnose the issue as all AC systems pretty much work in the same fashion.
