Oil leak

Hi my Mini brothers and sister I require some help. I currently have a oil leak but it appears to be leaking from the drivers side. I have r56 european model. I have tried to look through this forum. I had no luck I hoping someone can help me because I don't trust mini dealer after it took 4 visit to figure out there was something wrong with my temperture sensor when my heater wasnt working. Any help would be great

I'm not a R56 owner but your information is incomplete. Be specific so other R56 owner can chime in. Driver side? ummmm? Top or bottom? Is it on.........? Endless questions.

Have you taken a close look at the oil filter housing and the seals in that area? I gather there are a couple problem areas there:
1. The filter cover o ring can get pinched during an oil change and lead to a leak.
2. The cover itself is plastic and has been known to crack (possibly due to abuse or heat cycles).
3. There is a very long seal under the casting that the filter cover threads into that has been known to leak. Sadly that is a very pricey part to replace and most shops (and vendors here) recommend replacing the casting along with the seals making it a pricey fix. The recommendation comes from the amount of labour required to get at the casting, so replacing the seals only is a big risk given the price of labour these days!

Good luck, and for more help, if you can post some pictures - 1000 words each don't you know!

I have a mini cooper 2007 model. I found the leak to be at the bottom at the front of the car on the driver side. I have check the oil filter and it is not that. I will try and take a picture tomorrow when I got the chance. Feel free to fire away with questions. I'm not an expert on cars I have basic/intermediate knowledge. I will try and help as best as I can.

Take it to the dealer for diagnose. My 2010 non-s clubman had the same leaking area. After diagnosis, it was the timing chain tensioner was backing out causing the leak. Dealer then replaced the timing chain tensioner with an improved version. It has been fine since then. Though I just sold the clubman 2 days ago.

Based on the info provided, my guess would be a leaking turbo oil feed line and/or return line or the gasket for the oil filter housing.

I don't think this is a turbo oil leak, as the OP has a Non-s cooper.

It seems like you have ran out of warranty. If that's the case, I think it is better to swallow 150euro this time than to have a catastrophic engine damage later on, which will cost a lot more to repair.

What?! They even charge for road testing? Are they insane? That's definitely not some pleasant numbers to see.

So how's everything after the repair? Any sight of continued leakage?

I'm sorry but did I see that correctly? They read out faults with an ISID for the oil leaks? And they ran a test plan for oil leak and your leaks weren't in the test schedule. How about they just lift the car and look. R56's are **** to a few oil leaks and they are very easy to find. Yours being a non s makes it a lot easier. That's just plain highway robbery IMOP. Not to mention being charged for a test drive to get the vehicle up too operating temp. Incredible!!!
