keyless comfort lock button doesn't work

The locks all work fine with the keyfob, but he button on the passenger side no longer works. The dealer wants to change $200 to "reprogram the locks", and if that doesn't work, tear the door down. I think it is a defective button since it works fine with the keyfob. I took it to 2 independent places in Portland, Oregon, and they have no idea of what to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Most report this is caused by a defective button. You might try and wiggle rubber as much as possible while you push with the hope a slightly dirty contact is all it is.
Why would the dealer think a once functioning switch needs re-programming anyway? If MINIs loose their programming this easily they should fix it for free.

Thanks for the suggestions; I tried that and it didn't work. Any one know a good Mini shop in Portland Oregon? I am not very happy with the dealership since it was bought out by a huge company and moved to its own facility, it used to be part of a BMW dealership.

I am assuming we are talking about comfort opening feature where key does not need to be inserted in slot to start the car.
If so, does the button work properly on the driver's side?
If so, you've narrowed the possibilities to passenger handle, antenna or wiring.
Has the car been in a body shop for repairs on passenger side?

Works fine on the drivers side, no body repair, car has only 35000 miles or so. Your assumptions are correct, I wasn't sure what the feature was called. Thanks for the help. I assume it is a defective button, but no one I have been to, including the dealer has any idea on how to fix it. The antenna and wiring should be ok since it works fine with the keyfob button.

Trying pushing inward more and holding the button in a little bit longer. The driver side button does get some more use over time, but i guess the passenger side could do the same thing

I have used them in the past and on some 2007 version the button tend to take a little more inward pressure and hold.

Sounds like the Comfort access battery (in the key fob) is fine since it works on the driver side.

If that does not work I would start with the handle first, since that is the part that can wear.

#1 in the diagram passenger side - Chrome w/ little button for Comfort access.

There are also those antenna that are near the doors , and near the trunk. But I would think it would pick up on the other antenna. Since I can stand near my car with the key fob and someone can open it from the passenger side using the comfort access button on the handle.

Thanks and hope that helps.

Wow!! thanks so much, the drivers side is ok, just the passenger side is the problem. I presume I need to get to the handle from the inside, maybe I will take this to the mechanic to fix. I tried all ways to push the button and nothing works. This is for a 2008 Clubman S; is it the same handle?

Yes,

Thats the same handle for passenger side on the R55 Clubman. Also used on the R56 hardtops , R57 MINI Convertible, R58 Coupe and R59 Roadster.
