Hey all,


I've been searching for an answer here but couldn't find one. The outside layer of my muffler is rusting and falling off. I want to get a performance exhaust in the near future, but don't have the cash quite yet.

I'm wondering what my options are? Peel the rust off? Try to JB weld it? Any suggestions?

The outer shell on a gen1 Muffler/resonator is just a heatshield....
They are both still airtight and function (mine does anyway)...or should be!!
I just live with mine...waiting for the day to "upgrade"it!

Yup...on mine anyway. Been told when asked, then checked it out...just a heat-shield. Look more closely..I did on mine...no exhaust leaks.

 

Just let it hang. Pulling things off will just accelerate the process. If you do get a rust-through, there are putty type solutions at auto parts stores that can serve as temporary solutions.
