R56 2009 Cooper S - Need an engine. :(

So it turns out that a camshaft bolt broke off, destroying the timing chain and as such, my engine.

I need a new engine. Where's the best place to get one? I'm not made of money so cost is a huge factor... but if you guys can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

We can sell you a brand new engine for less than $4k, which has a 2yr warranty and includes a new water pump, oil filter housing, vacuum pump, and thermostat.

Interesting. I called you guys yesterday afternoon and I was told that you didn't have an engine for my car, nor could you get one. Was this information incorrect?

scary, hope you find a replacement. I take it timing chain/tensioner were never repaired under warranty?

I picked it up used after the warranty had expired, but it doesn't look like it. That being said, the mechanic I took it to said that it wasn't the tensioner that failed, it was the bolt in the cam shaft that holds on the timing wheel. Just total bad luck I guess. :(

Does make me think, though... how many MINIs are flying around out there with drivers that never check these forums and have no idea about the tensioner/chain issue? They are driving ticking time bombs. I only found out about that when the car died the other day and I started doing some research.

I can't believe people are selling these 1.6 sohc motors for over 4k.

I would look at putting in a honda K20 motor before i spend close to 5k for the little engine that could :/

Good luck OP
