I just purchased a pre-owned cooper s Tuesday. It only had 14,500 on it and fully loaded sweet ride. Anyway had a little rough start with her the very next day I took her out the PVC hose that looks like it connects to the supercharger had a gash and BMW already had to replace that.

I complained of a low-level knocking noise from the engine about center seems to coming from our around the supercharger area. They said the sound I heard was from the PVC valve when the hose was gashed? I was like "What are you trying to blow by me". Anyway I gave them some benfiet of the doubt and sure enough I still hear this noise.

I wanted to get your guys/gals take on this? Is this a typical noise from this car?

Thanks for the help.

Sounds like my issue may fall under this post "Tapping sound above 3000 rpm, mild to heavy acceleration

I guess I should add the noise happens for me at idle and seems to drop a little when the clutch is depressed.

I'm with MINI USA. The problem you are experiencing sounds like a job for your MINI service center. We'd be more than happy to contact your service center on your behalf. If you'd like us to do that, please give us a call at 866.ASK.MINI and mention Reference # 200411000307 so that we can help you more efficiently.

Well Saturday I visited Crevier MINI and the service dept checked into my knocking and said this was a common noise heard from the stock supercharger. They seemed confident in their answer and said the noise in some mini's it's more prominent sounding than others. They assured me they have had good luck with their supercharger so I guess I am ok. I just had them make note of it just in case.

I want to go to a SWORKS package soon so it probably won't matter anyway.

Whine yes, knock NO!

If you hear knocking noises under load take it to the dealer quickly before you do something to make the warranty dissapear.

I for one have never seen a post about a "knocking" supercharger...and indeed mine makes no noise other than the typical whine.

Your dealer is full of crap. Take it to another dealer and/or take MINIDivision up on their offer of help.

BTW, what on earth could be the relationship between the supercharger and depressing the clutch?? Answer...there ISN'T one! That alone should tell you your dealer is snowing you.

Thanks the Tip. Does anyone know of a good Cooper specialist in Orange County, Ca that I can take the car to for non-biased opinion. I have been to both Crevier BMW and Irvine BMW. If this is the case I think the dealers blow all the way around. If I can get a Mini mechanic on the outside to tell me the truth that is what I will need to get the problem fixed.

Thanks.
