I've seen quite some jimble-jamble on the intake of air into the intercooler, but
how/where does the air going into the intercooler exit? Would it be more efficent if their was an exit scoop on the reverse side? I know many of the "riced" cars have exhaust vents for intercoolers...

Of course making an exit vent could be a pretty massive undertaking...

... but I bet some MCS owner out there has done it

What about a rad fan on the back side to pull air through the IC at low speed? Is there enough room underneath to do something like this? I don't drive an 'S' , but just get curious about these things.

There is very little room beneath the intercooler. The intake runners, and fuel pressure regulator, vacuum lines, etc. Spaghetti.

I was poking around under the hood, you would almost need to put flip the intercooler 90 degrees and have a smaller (and wider?) one that was upright.

Would be a massive undertaking, but then again... All in the interest of power

The intercooler is already at the level of the hood vent. If you were to flip it 90 degrees it would be sticking up through the hood! Someone, (Randy, I think?) is toying with the idea of a front mount intercooler, but there will be 4 more 90 degree elbows, and some removal of structural elements, not to mention alot of $$$$ for the conversion. Even just a slightly larger IC is like $1000. If you got the money...

I asked this on Mini2. I really thought a fan on the underside would help out in slow traffic. But unfortunately there's hardly the room.
I've been told the air flows over the valve cover, then past the exhaust manifold then out, and it works pretty good. I think it would be a fun experiment to try something out, but for the time spent on a design, and then building it, I think you'd be pretty disappointed at the performance gain associated with it.

There may be little room but there's airflow. I have seen imprints of dust that appeared to be silk screened onto the top of the plug boots. The blast through the intercooler leaves the pattern of the core.

If air enters, it follows that air must exit. This fact was never in dispute. Here is a photo of what the space directly beneath the intercooler looks like.
