Help my mini won't start

Looking for advice on my 09 mcs. Drove just fine one day then wouldn't start the next day. :(. When the keys in the radio works... As well as the windows and all dings... When I hit start the engine turns over and tries... But won't start. I've had issues with my chain tensioner and just had the dealer do work on that in December. Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Ok... Maybe I need to add more info. I filled up my mini last Thursday... Friday drove it out to dinner... No problems at all. Saturday my bf checked my oil.. Level was good. He moved the car out of the garage to sweep the garage... Then pulled the my car back in... Sunday evening I hopped in my mini n it wouldn't start... All the lights, radio n windows work. When I push start it tries to do something... Keeps trying... Until I push stop. One time it barely started then puttered off or died.

High pressure fuel pump. A common r56 fail.

Mine did that the other day. I stopped for gas and when I was done, I pushed the start button and it just cranked without starting. I tried again, with my foot on the gas, It started and ran roughly but, with my foot still on the gas, smoothed out. It has run just fine since.

I think the Engine Control Unit had a brain fart and thought the engine was cold when it wasn't, it seemed like it was flooded when it started.

Ah... Well i was leaning towards thinking fuel pump after reading other threads on here... I went out today to try n listen for the pump to prime when I put the key in n heard nothing. I do hear something when I first open the door... But I can't imagine that'd b the fuel pump.

Should I b able to hear the fuel pump prime at any point??

Actually the fuel pump does prime when you open the door. It preps the car for start.

If I remember correctly it does. Do you have nav? That also spins up and makes noise.

I wonder if there is an issue with a brief start and shut off in cold weather?
I just had a similar issue last week with my '08 MCS 70k miles. Still in the shop after had to have it towed 2hrs to nearest dealer. Had started the car for a few minutes to move it in the drive on Sunday. Then went to go to work Monday morning and just sputtered and then kept cranking until I stopped it. SA at the shop said the tech had a hard time getting it to start and when he did it ran very rough.
After inspection I was told the motor seemed to be flooded with gas and they recommended an oil change due to fuel in the oil and change the plugs because they were all fouled up now. No determination made at that point as to why it was flooded. Now they want to check the timing since the tech heard "the rattle" on the next mornings cold start. Will see what they have to say yet today.....

YES!!! That was it. Had it towed today.... And got the call this evening that it was flooded. He said those engines don't like the quick start n stop... With the fuel injection they need more run time than just rolling back a few feet then again to go forward a few feet. When I called him this morning n explained what was going on he said that's what he thought it was n tried to walk me through clearing the gas line..... When I talked to him this evening he laughed n said I almost had it.

He checked my oil as well n said I'm good to go... Anywho he's going to take it for a quick drive in the morning again m make sure it's running tip top then call me for pick up

Hope you end up with better luck than mine. They wanted to check timing and turns out my chain is shot. Guide rail on one side completely missing, assumed to be laying in the oil pan somewhere. Also needs valves cleaned and turbo oil line starting to leak. $3200 to replace timing alone.

I've had my timing chain worked on twice now... Most recently in December..... When they replaced the chain. So that was on my mind.... N the mechanic did look that over.
