CEL = three codes. Oxygen Sensor?

Hi all -

Anyway, a month ago I got the yellow CEL. Not the solid, but the outline. Checked the gas cap, looked fine, and went through a tank of gas. The light is still on.

Yesterday I ran for codes and three were thrown.

Any idea what's going on? O2 sensor is the obvious, however is there anything deeper? It's a 2008 Cooper S with 33k miles.

Much thanks!

P0130 - O2 Sensor (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

P0130 - Before-catalyst oxygen sensor, electrical: Nernst-cell resistance or ceramic temperature implausible, wiring or heater fault

P2243 - O2 Sensor Reference Voltage Circuit Open (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

P0030 - HO2S Heater Control Circuit (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

It is all 02 sensor related. Try replacing the precat sensor and resetting the ECU. I doubt it is anything else.

Great, that was my hunch as well. Just wanted to confirm

I haven't been able to locate the part number online however. Any idea what it would be for a 08 R56?

Before you replace the part, which is a BOSCH LS17112 wideband sensor, remove the connector, clean it with WD40 and check again. Because the connector sits upright, it can accumulate moisture... Since you are also getting errors for the heater, you may wanna check to see if any fuse is blown...

The code means that there is a problem with the heater element circuit of the heated oxygen sensor. The control module monitors how long it take the sensor to warm up and start sending an adequate signal. The code is triggered when the sensor is taking too long to warm up. Water getting inside the heated oxygen sensor connector can caused the heated oxygen sensor fuse to blow. Before replacing the sensor, check for the condition of the heated oxygen sensor fuse and connectors. If the sensor and connector are OK, replacing the O2 Sensor 1 usually takes care of the problem

HO2S Heater Control Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 1 is the generic definition for the P0030; however your vehicle's manufacturer may have a different definition and information for the P0030 code.

Great advice. I did hit a deep puddle that day (it's been a couple months).

Any idea or pictures how to remove it? Can't seem to find it....

thanks!

It is that prominent wire that protrudes from the turbocharger shield. Trace it through the engine (where the cable is simply secured) and you will find the connector next to the oil dipstick The connector lies in a holder, from where you need to remove it to be able to open it, as it is pretty well clamped.

Here's the part diagram REALOEM

Is this near the connector? Or in a fuse box somewhere? I've been searching for awhile now and haven't been able to find anything...

BTW - this is all so very very helpful. Going to work on it tonight.

Thanks again!

What fuse would apply to the oxygen sensor? Looked in the passenger side footwell and didn't see anything sensor related....
