What does the "gas cap light" look like?
Hi, folks.
I apologize in advance for starting a new thread on this; I've read the other threads mentioning this issue but everyone seemed to know what the light looked like and what fault code it produced.
I have: 2009 MINI Cooper S purchased in Nov 2008, 6 speed manual
It was 9 degrees F this morning on the way to work. The CEL (yellow; I can't recall if it was outlined or half filled) bove the steering wheel came on, then shortly went off .No issues, car ran fine and I chalked it off to the intense cold. I got to work at 8:30 am with no problem.
Fast forward to 5:45 pm and I'm leaving work and it's 14 degrees F. This time, the CEL above the steering wheel goes on AND I get a yellow CEL on the speedometer that stayed on even though the one above the steering wheel went off. Again, sorry but I don't remember with certainty if the yellow CEL above the steering wheel was outlined or half filled. I thought I got a whiff of fuel when I first started the car; this smell dissipated after a few minutes. I tried shutting the car off and on again but the CEL on the speedometer remained.
Can anyone suggest any tips to check here? When I came home, I removed and replaced the gas cap. It didn't seem loose or cross threaded.
As always thanks for any help you might provide. If it wasn't for the bits I learn on this forum, I'd have sold my MINI years ago.

My gas cap light week, on my 2008, showed up as a "service" light in Yellow above the steering wheel and then the picture of the engine showed in yellow on the large speedometer. Just tightening the cap didn't help. I had to unscrew/remove the cap then put it back on. Both lights went out immediately afterwards.
THANK YOUUUUU, mini coop! So there is hope that it's not a huge problem! I will cling to that. LOL! This morning with wind chill it's below zero in some places so I expect if it's more than the gas cap it'll occur again.
I appreciate the help!
