"Rebuilt Supercharger Experience" posts only

A lot of the first generation MINI S's have surpassed the 100,000 mile mark, and sooner or later will be facing the inevitable question, "do I purchase a rebuilt supercharger and if so where?" I would like this thread to be comprised of comments by members who have been running a re-manufactured/rebuilt supercharger.

Please post where you purchased the re-manufactured, and how many miles you have on it. Are you satisfied with the results?

Pelican offers new MINI Superchargers at a reasonable price, however the rebuilt's I have seen will save you anywhere from $400 to +$700. Money well spent if they are quality rebuilds; wasted money if the rebuilds are junk.

Thank you for your comments!

Artoo (2003MCS) recently hit 130,000 miles with no supercharger issues. YET! It looks like there are three or four reputable supercharger rebuild places with similar pricing. Most have rebuilds on the shelf awaiting an exchange.

The questions I have at this point are?

1-Do all rebuilds come with a rotor recoat?
2-Are some cores better than others? For instance if the rebuild comes from a 2006, even with a lot of miles, would that be better than rebuilding my 2003?
3-Will all rebuilds require a reduction pulley as new stock pulleys are not available?

That’s it for now.

Rich

Not all rebuilds are the same. I can tell you this as when we started to do rebuilt superchargers we sent one off to 5 different places and got each one back to evaluate the work as we knew what each needed prior to shipping. We found there are many dishonest rebuilders. Some just do bearings and fluid, most do not time them correctly, and some sell you way more work than the blower needs, but rope you in to start with a good price then "find" you need more work. We've also seen some rebuilds that made less boost because of the improper rebuild.
FYI we keep rebuilts in stock and can offer them with a stock pulley installed or one of our WMW pulleys.
We also have a one year warranty on all of our rebuilt superchargers.
If the rotor coating is in good condition it does NOT need to be redone. There really isn't any difference in the operation with the 2 different coatings.

Steigeimer they did a great job with fast turn around, about a week. They also powdercoated the unit. In total I paid 950 for a full rebuild and port and polish.

Oh I did. It runs great pulls hard. Got a check engine code which was a bad fuel pump. Waiting for the pump and filter to come in today to install. It was fun also taking the car apart and putting it together made me feel good when it started up!
