Would rust on the 3rd coil cause the error code for cylinder one?

Would rust on the 3rd coil cause the error code for cylinder one?

Ignition coil

My car is chugging and experiencing low power while idling or at low speeds.
The engine light came on.
The traction control light came on.

I checked the code with a cheap obd2 tester and it read 0301-misfire in 1st cylinder.

I changed the wires and plugs, gave it an oil change.

Noticed the the 3rd pin on the coil was quite rusty....

I ordered a new coil but my question is:

Would rust on the 3rd pin cause the error code for cylinder one?

Thank you.

Maybe you can try uploading the picture of your ignition coil again so we know exactly what your dealing with? So what you're saying is that the metal contact/pin where cylinder 3's spark plug wires connect to on the coil pack is rusted? That should not be related to cylinder one but with the sophisticated electronics these cars have it's always a possibility. How do the other pins look?

Seems they all tend to rust. Periodically, I'll pull the boots, polish the terminals with steel wool, use a Q-Tip and coat the inside of the boots with dielectric grease, then re-install.

KERVER, were you ever able to determine if they were related? I have a similar type problem. I have a cylinder 3 which has low compression and failed its leakdown test. There however is no code for cylinder 3 only a code for cylinder 1 which is a p0301. P0301 is my only code but it doesnt make sense since cylinder 1 has 150+psi and did very well on its leakdown test. I have been trying to determine if a problem with cyl 3 could somehow default to cyl 1...

Well....Compression test showed low compression in cylinder 1 for mine. It turned out to be a burnt exhaust valve in C1.

The new coil I installed helped the car run WAY better, i'm pretty sure it needed to be replaced regardless.

My car is currently at the garage getting the head refurbished:(

Glad you got this sorted. Though it's best to have optimal conduction, I haven't seen the 3rd teminal rust cause bad misfire or throw codes. Good to periodically clean them.
