Oil Pressure light at idle, digging deeper

Hi all,

I've seen some of the articles on here and other sites that address the idle oil pressure light issue and thought that I made the necessary repairs and part replacements but no luck.

After noticing the oil light I dug into it and changed the upper of the filter housing to the the newer (post 04 - part # 11 42 7 563 763) style that doesn't require the cage and spring.
Went from a oil light that shuts off and the slightest touch of the gas pedal to a oil light that only shuts off at or above about 2300 rpm.
I'm looking that the lower part of the filter housing now because my guess is that something isn't right there:

My question is, does something seem off or missing in this picture? I've only been able to find a couple other comparative photos this one is the best: thanks user k-huevo

Looks like I'm missing a small black piece (top of the bypass valve?), but is it something on this guys car that wouldn't be on my R50? Not sure. I'm wondering if anyone here knows the answer.

Any input will be much appreciated.

It's unfortunate that there are no responses to this thread, as I suspect it's a common problem with these cars. I was changing my oil yesterday and while mopping out the waste oil from inside the filter housing I noticed something loose, just flopping around in the bottom. I pulled it out, had a look, scratched my head, went through my service manual and found no reference picture. I put it back in in the most logical way which was probably upside down and now my oil light too comes on at idle. I now know (or suspect) that the spring must be in the bore, but there seemed to be nothing that retained the plunger. And now I must pull the housing cover off again, lose more oil into the K member and on the ground and try to put it right. Hopefully there's not something damaged inside, like something that keeps the damn plunger from simply popping back out.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Found this thread while researching my own issue with this. The drainback valve on mine snapped at the bottom of the three pegs that have the clips on them. The way I dealt with this was to take the spring off of the drainback valve (the black plastic one), and put it back in the housing. Then I (gently) put the filter back on, and reinstalled the cap as usual. I haven't had an oil pressure light yet. Only been 100 miles, but I think it should hold. Only downside is it's going to make a mess next time I change the filter. Hope this helps.
