Cannot reset tire pressure
Cannot reset tire pressure
So last night was a cold night and it set off my tire pressure warning light. This morning I go to a gas station and measure the pressure. Everything is normal. I'm driving off so I can reset it, but when I get to that option I don't have the option to reset. It just says LOW TIRE!. No matter how long I hold I can not reset the tire pressure. Not sure what to do.
maybe a TPMS sensor went out in your wheel? ive had a similar issue, and i dont even know if my button works, bc when i press it, nothing happens, then later, ill look and the lights off. maybe it takes an engine start / stop cycle?
I thought that it would fix itself with a stop/start cycle too, but I drove the car to school parked it for 3 hours and when I was leaving I thought it would fix itself, but nothing changed. I am putting on two new front tires tomorrow because they are badly worn, but I don't have money to change a sensor.
I inadvertently set mine off this week when experimenting with tire pressures.
I followed the owner's manual procedure to get it reset.
Start the engine, but don't drive off. Press the signal stalk button to get to SET/INFO. Press and hold the button till the display changes, then press a few times to cycle through the icons till you see the TPMS icon in the alert window. It should show ACTIVE >RESET in the info window. Press/hold the button here till it changes to RESETTING, then drive off. It will then turn off the light after a little driving.
I did this on mine, and it turned off after a block or two. You basically have to tell it to reset, *then* it does so after you start driving. It took me a while to realize that it doesn't turn off the warning light then/there. Two steps: tell it you want to reset it, then drive off, when it will then run self tests / whatever to actually reset the light.
PS: And it won't turn the light off on it's own either, even if you've "fixed" the pressure problem, unless the "RESET" request is performed, as above.

Thanks guys. I figured it out what I was doing wrong. I was trying to reset while driving instead of resetting and then driving.

I have discovered that if you get a "low tire" warning and put air in the tire while the engine is running the warning will go out when the pressure reaches what it was before going low and you don't have to "reset" it. I confirmed this with a Mini tech.If you put air in with the engine off then you will have to go through the "reset" process. this is valid for 2nd generation and I don't know if it works on 1st generation.
