Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs.
There is this strange sound coming from the front of the car when decelerating to a stop which continues for about 2 seconds even after the rpm's fall back to idle. It sounds like a high pitched elephant. Although not very loud it is noticable over the magnaflow which says something. Any ideas what this could be.

Your PCV valve has failed. It's a really common fault for MCSs and is a quick warranty fix. It's not immediately dangerous to your car (but keep an eye on your oil level). You can confirm it by squeezing the rubber hose that comes out from your valve cover, just next to the MINI logo (on the top of your engine). If it is soft and oily, I'm right. Let us know. -Eric
I just checked the soft rubber hose,. Question: is there supposed to be a clamp because mine did not have one and I was able to just slip it off, it was a little oily but not dramatic. Any advice
On the paperwork I got back with the car, it shows 2 filters and the hose being replaced. Since the car had it's 25K service done, I was assuming the 2 filters were the air and oil. It doesn't mention a PCV valve, so I guess that part was OK.
The mechanic knew right away what the problem was when I dropped it off on Thursday, so this must be a common problem.
