Mini Cooper key wont start car.

Ok heres the deal, I have a 2007 Mini S with out comfort access. The Key Fob will unlock the doors and roll down the windows, when i put it in the key slot to start the car it does not recognize that its there. it does not go into ACC mode and the car will not start. The radio works like normal when the cars completely off like it should, which means the battery is not dead. Please any help would be great.

What's the history behind this? Did it work before and stopped working? Do you have another key that does work? The battery may not be "dead", but you should still check the voltage.

how it started

Well i started having trouble getting it to recognize the key a couple days ago but it was intermittent. Finally yesterday it just stopped. If it was the battery it should still recognize the fact of putting the key in then give me the low battery symbol. I only have one key. I feel like its either the key or the receiver. looking for someone who has seen this problem in particular and found the solution.

I'd get the battery checked out just in case. I've read on here where lights, etc. still worked, but the car wouldn't crank and it turned out to be the battery. Just a thought.

You could disconnect the battery to "reset" the system & see if that helps.

BTW, to lock/unlock the car, the key only needs to transmit data to the car. To start the car, the key needs to have a two-way "conversation" with the car so it has to receive data as well as transmit data. Your key might not be receiving data correctly...

I found this info from this thread located at https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...y-fob-fix.html

Maybe that thread could help as well. Good luck!

You can read my tale of woe here:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-new-mini.html

I sincerely hope yours turns out nothing like mine. I don't know if it will help you, but mine started exactly the same way and, as far as I'm concerned, they haven't actually solved the initial problem yet.

Best of luck to you!

THIS...is why I would much rather have a "key" instead of a fob.

i have heard of this happening on a bunch of 2012s, turned out to be a loose connector at the key slot in the dash

fix is to push the connector on until it "snaps" in place

2009 ClubmanS

Wife's key fob started acting up yesterday and she got it to work couple times enough to get her back to work. My key works fine. We've swapped keys and I can't get hers to work at all. It feels like it's not seating correctly in the slot, although it does fit but just doesnt feel "normal". It will lock and unlock, however I haven't tried the windows. But none of the electronics (lights, radio, etc) work when seated...so I figure the windows wont work either. HELP!

Do yourself a favor and call MINI of Dallas and talk to Tony in Service. He is a Tech there and will take good care of you!

Edited:

Oh, actually, I just realized you may not be in the Dallas area. Sorry. As for me, the initial problem that I had was solved by replacing the key fob. I also wish there was a regular key and much less electronic control of all the components in the car.

Good Luck!

This doesn't answer the specific issue, but might solve the puzzle for someone else. I had never used the 2nd key that came with my new Mini. Several months after I bought the car, I thought I'd use it, as I had been told the battery needed a charge now and again. The key didn't work, would not start the car. I took it back t the dealer and it turned out they gave me the key to another car that they had sold. They ordered me a new keyfob.

Hi - I'm having the same issue! But when I took my car to Mini service to order a new key fob, they told me that the key wasn't the issue. Do you have a 'how-to' on this fix?

Key fob won’t start car

2008 Mini Cooper s .. key fob does everything but turn the car on, UNLESS, the fob is in the ignition.
Is there a receiver problem, fuse, ... ?
