P0503 - p3202

Has anyone had any experience with these codes? What exactly do they mean?

Has anyone found a solution to these codes other than taking the mini to the dealer? I'm out of warranty

P3202 - Powertrain CAN chip cut off
-or-
P3202 - PT CAN communications fault: CAN bus off or CAN bus defective

&

P0503 - Vehicle Speed Sensor 'A' Intermittent/Erratic - Signal too high

Thank you for your replies!

* MINI DTC P0503 (0x32D0) - Vehicle Speed: Signal Too High
* MINI DTC P3202 (0x3091) - Powertrain (PT) CAN Communications Fault: CAN-BUS off or CAN-BUS Defective

The ECU is seeing that the vehicle speed sensor that relays the speed back for the instrument cluster.
Test the sensor for proper resistance, if it doesn't hold to spec, replace it.

As for the CAN-BUS fault, are you having any problems with the engine sputtering or 'trying to catch itself' when the RPMs flutter?
Does the scanned car have an automatic transmission?

Other than the ECU not being able to communicate with the powertrain module, does it impede on drivability?

what does CAN-BUS mean?

i have had no problems with the engine sputtering or trying to catch itself. my 07 cooper is a 6spd manual. it does not impede drivability and everything seems to work just fine. it's been this way for several months and i've driven thousands of miles with no problems so far.

can u explain to me in simple terms what the problem might be? is it strictly an ecu problem?

thanks again for ur help, much appreciated! :D

also, my speedo is working fine. i have 3 warning lights on my dash which are always illuminated: ABS, e-brake, traction control off.

is this due to the speed sensor or CAN-BUS?

CAN-BUS is the set of wiring and the communications protocols that make up the OBD-2 (On-Board Diagnostics, version 2) system. It's how the different systems in the car communicate with each other, and with the diagnostic equipment.
