Hi peps..

So, I just hit 2000 miles on my car in 1.5 month.. and today after driving for about 1 hr in warm weather (mid 80's and sun).. I parked my car and went to store.. after I got back I started it and here I hear this annoying noise in idle while sitting at parking lot..

Here is video.. You can hear it all they way till 24 second.. then it disappear for about 1.5 sec and comes back at the end of 25 second for a very short time..

What are Your thoughts?

 

Yeah, thats the water pump. I"ve had mine replaced 3 times on my 09 already.

And I've heard a few sqeals today. You're not alone on this one.

 

Agree it could be the water pump, however it would be an interesting test to spray a tiny bit of belt dressing on the belt to verify it's not the belt squeeling.

 

is there a point to actually have it fixed? If they going to put new part but same design problem and it will come back in future?

 

Wow! I have an '09MC and an '011MCS and so far the water pumps have been good. I do have radiator fans that are NOT balanced and create vibrations inside the vehicle and on the body(hood/bonnet) of the vehicle when the fans turn on. You would think that a balance fan would be a good thing but apparently MINI/BMW don't give a darn.

Yup, mine is squealing again today. Bringing it in tomorrow.

I love this car, but damn is it quirky. 4 water pumps and the cold start rattle(which I've heard a couple times since that was "fixed" a year ago).

I really doubt I'd get another one.

 

is the water pump in the non-S the same as the one in the S?

 

i dont have that sound in my 2011 MCS, but i do hear a squeaky sound when i turn off the car, i have almost 10k miles, any of you hear it too?

 

Mine started doing it today on my 2011 MC non-s.

 

09 MCS and this just started happening to me too...

Is this just an issue of making an annoying sound, or is my pump likely to fail?

 

Yeah, just a real quick chirp; sounds a lot like an accessory belt coming to a stop. I have just over 16K miles and I've detected it for much of that. Never gets any worse. Unless it does, I'm not worrying about it.

 

My 2012 did both the quick shut down chirp and the occasional sustained idle whine within a couple weeks of taking delivery. Took it back to the dealer with water pump on the mind and they claimed it was "Normal" and all MCSs do that. I cried BS, but neither noise has happened since. Maybe they tweaked something during their investigation, maybe they replaced the water pump and just didn't tell me.

 

Sounds like a belt, especially if it's intermittent.

 

Is this sound different than the new "fluttering" of the wastegate or turbo related noises people recently started hearings on start-up?

 

Weird--it almost sounded like an air leak to my ear.

 

I have the same noise on a 2007 Cooper. Dealer replaced the friction wheel on the water pump the first time and the drive wheel for the water pump the sec on time. Noise came back both times.

 

same problem here. Started hearing high pitch noise at idle. 2012 non-S, 3000 miles. Water pump replaced by dealer and problem is gone. Cant believe this issue still happening on newer coopers.

 

Good luck with that. I'm on water pump #5 and friction drive 3 or 4 now(can't quite remember)

It's safe to say I'm dumping my 09 S before the warranty is up. And I will NOT be getting another MINI. I just don't trust the car any more.

Btw I've also had the death rattle "fixed" 3 times now as well.

 

Thanks for the feedback. I will think about it before the warranty is over to either buy extended warranty or trade it in for a TOYOTA GT86.

This is my first MINI and Im not impressed at all.

 

It sucks that it's still happening on the 12's, and with a car as new as yours. Hopefully my experience is on the extreme bad end and yours will not give you anymore headaches.

I guess they are using the same pump and drive. You'd think that with all the warranty work they've done on these pumps they would have figured it out by now.

I'm going BMW for my next vehicle. I know they make the mini but I have nothing but praise for my dealership so I'm willing to give BMW another shot just because of the great service I've had from them.

 

Just started hearing it on my 2011 MCCSa at nearly 24K miles. Guess it's time for a trip to the dealer!

 

Mine turned out to be the serpentine belt, replaced under warranty and good to go.
