Outside Temp reading -40 w/ SES

I replaced the cooling fan on my 2005 S. Since then my outside temp is reading -40 and the SES light is on. I changed the sensor but it hasn't changed the -40 readout. I need some help. I switched relays and there was no change.

Ok, the lead wire was pinched when I put the front end back on. So all is good but the SES light is still on. Maybe it's associated w/ the A/C problem?

Sounds like you might have bumped/ pinched/cut the air bag impact sensor just like the temp sensor that is stuck to the bumper cover....i remember the sensor was pretty far out if the way, but anything is possible if not careful.

Did you check and/or clear the code? There is a code specifically if that sensor goes haywire. Furthermore, the code wont just go away regardless if you fixed the issue. Use a scan tool to clear it.

Nope...pulling the bat cable will not reset the airbag or odb2 light...
the airbag light needs a special tool...odb2 can be clearing with most code readers....some codes will need a better reader, but generaic will work.

I was unaware it would not clear the SES/MIL light on the MINI. I've always had a scan tool at my disposal so clearly I was mistaken. That being said, you can clear DTCS from most cars OBDI and newer up till very late model by removing the battery cable. However, I've NOT seen a car that didn't need a scan tool to clear airbag codes.

OBD: on board diagnostics (the plug that all modern cars have that allows fault codes to be read from the enginer management system - 2 is the current system)

The ac issue is separate...
Bet you pinched the hose on the condenser or poked it when doing the fan....it is easy to do if you are not careful or don't support it, and just let it hang...that is if the ac is a new issue...if presisting, the lack of a cooling fan at lower temps seems ro make the ac compressor work at higher preasures, causing faster wear, and often killing them more quickly.....many folks ignore the low speed cooling fan failure till the ac dies....so often the "problems" both appear in tandem.
The clutch on the compressors fails often....but they are generaly not avalable separately.

Don't know about the pinched hose yet, but I do have A/C issue. Can you help diagnose it, maybe. 2005 S w/ 80K, replaced the A/C compressor and drier, recharged, no leaks. A/C blows cool air not cold air. When the tech charged the system, he said high side pressure was jumping around, drive it a day or two and see if it settles. Could the Expansion valve, which I didn't install be the cause. I just don't know how to get to it. I found it but can't figure out the replacement of it. The only other option I can think of is the condensor. Could it be the cause of only cool air?

Mine is also reading -40, i know its the air temp sensor and can reset the cel but not sure where to find the sensor to replace it....I looked everywhere but i know i am overlooking it..I had oil leak from turbo line and think it soaked it with oil possibly or just went bad..
