Loss of Boost and Code.

I have a 2007 Cooper S. It has around 122,000 Miles. I was driving and noticed that it had throttle lag when going from coast back to the throttle. It kicked the P1497 code. I also notice now that it does not have the turbo kick that it had before. Like the wastegate is not opening. When i shift i still hear the blow off valve. Without a boost guage i do not know how much boost it is producing. Any ideas on what the problem could be ? It also idles rough and sounds as if it has a vacuum leak on passenger side intake side of the motor.

p1497 is an unmetered air leak...

usually a leaking valve cover...check your turbo inlet tube for tears as well, specifically down near where it connects to the turbo

If you can hear a vaccuum leak it should be easy to pinpoint where its coming from I would think?

* MINI DTC P1497 (0x2B64) - Downstream Throttle Air Leak
As ThumperMCS suggested, check the valve cover for cracks / leaks... it's becoming more an issue.
But do check you intake system to make sure there's no loose connections.
The ECU is seeing a problem past the throttle body (which isn't much); the only part left is the intake manifold.

I have felt all around the back passenger side of the valve cover and can find no leak. But I hear a small hissing come and go. I read that a bad pcv valve could also be the culprit. Thanks for the help.

Now i nearly get stranded coming home today. The car kicked a code P2178 (too rich off idle) It trys to stall when leaving from a light. Have to baby it to get it up to speed. NO POWER. so it is keeping the P1497 and now has P 2178. Any ideas. If it was a carb car i would say it had a terrible vacuum leak by the way it acts.

Ok...you say hear a leak...FIND IT.

Something is clearly pulling air in or out that shouldn't be and it's messing with AFR's now.

* MINI DTC P2178 (0x2746 or 0x274E or 0x2BC1) - Fuel Trim Limit Exceeded: System Too Rich
With that hissing leak, you're pushing out air before it reaches the combustion chamber and the ECU is seeing too rich of fuel burn.
Again, as ThumperMCS points out, you need to immediately take care of the vacuum leak and isolate any other issues attributed to such.

OK i finally replaced the SOLV valve located on the rear of the head passenger side. I no longer get the P 2178 code. The car still had no boost but now kicked 3 codes. P 1338, P 1497, and a P 013a. Any ideas ??

What scanner are you using? You're still getting generic P-codes...

* MINI DTC P013A (0x2ACD or 0x2AD2) - O2 Sensor Slow Response - Rich to Lean (Bank 1, Sensor 2)
* MINI DTC P013A (0x2CED) - Oxygen Sensor Behind Catalytic Convertor, Dynamic Response, from lean to rich, Slow Response

* MINI DTC P1338 (0x296A) - Camshaft Position Sensor Rationality Check (Inlet - Outlet)
* MINI DTC P1338 (0x2DA0) - Intake Camshaft: Angle Offset to Crankshaft is Outside Tolerance Range

* MINI DTC P1497 (0x2B64) - Downstream Throttle Air Leak

Two major things I see, the ECU is seeing the engine camshafts are out of timing relation with the crankshaft.
Immediately check to make sure timing of the engine is spot on.

The second is the ECU is seeing a significant downstream leak past the throttle body, which means there's a crack / hole / opening allowing air out of the system.
Pressure check the engine and verify where, if any, leaks are present.

My '07 MCS just started showing the yellow engine icon, my OBD2 reader kicked out the P1497 code, and am wondering what your final solution was? It's going into the shop this Wed. and am trying to get a feel for what to expect...
TIA

P1497 & p2178

Hi, I am having similar, but different issues. 2007 MCS with 42k. Last week I had the car out for its first real use this spring, a 750 mile day trip, everything fine. The next day while running an errand I got the yellow CEL and codes P0300, P0301, P0302 and P2097. It was a bad coil on #1 and I replaced it.

Car ran fine for about ten miles, then I got the P1497, cleared that and got it again with P2178. Cleared them both and the P2178 came back, car was running poorly, hesitating, no power. I did a very thorough visual inspection and could not find anything unusual.

Then, because I had it in the garage anyhow I put a new air cleaner on it, just for giggles. Took it out again and 75 miles mixed traffic later it seems fine.

So, my question. Could a really fouled air cleaner cause all the grief I am having?

Could for the P2178. Looked it up, something about fuel mixture too rich. I would think a very dirty air filter could do that..

I have the P1497. Mini service center is working on my vehicle right now. They said that the throttle body is defective and needs to be replaced.
