Lower Radiator Hose

Hi,
I had the brackets that hold up the lower radiator hose on my 2010 Clubman S break off and cause the radiator hose to drop low, which in turn caused a hole to rub off on the bottom of the hose and all of the fluid to drain out on the highway.

My dealer is now claiming I "hit something" that damages the hose, which I am certain I did not. I have photos of the supposed "damage" to the underside of the car, but what they show is basic light scraping on the underside of a low-clearance car.

I see some other posters on here with similar issues with erosion of that hose, and now I am wondering if this is a common problem or design defect. It does not look like there is much protection for the hose and brackets, though the assembly is very close to the bottom of the car and the road.

Thanks all,

Woody.

Hi Woody--I'm one of those you mentioned. My wife fortunately spotted the drooping hose as I pulled up our driveway (on a hill) before anything leaked. In the photo it looks like the vertical plastic has a small tear? Mine didn't suffer that, but most of the plastic clips did break, allowing the hose to fall lower. The dealership replaced the clips for me free of charge, and did say it was a poor design.

Sounds like you just need to replace the hose, clips, and coolant? Engine didn't overheat or anything catastrophic, did it?

Thanks Dodgy,
Can you tell me which Dealership you used because mine is fighting me on it.

And yes my car overheated...that is how I found out the hose had dropped down. Not sure if that caused any additional damage yet.

It doesn't help that your spoiler looks damaged like you hit something so I can see why your dealer is fighting it. I agree the hose should be a little more protected though.
