Low fan not working possible solution
Low fan not working possible solution
Hey guys so I have been reading all the other threads regarding the low fan going out and installing a resistor inline etc.
So I decided to give it a go today but being out in Africa finding the .33ohm resistor was impossible.
So we tried to testing the fan directly to the 12v battery to see if low and high were working and low and behold they both were, but just not when you wire them back.
So I figured it could be a relay but didn't know which one, as this was an ex UK spec car, I pulled the R1 to R4 relays and noticed a weak clicking on the R2 relay which only displays a engine sign with a lightning strike though it (or something like that) I then switched it with another relay which is in a box alone next to the ECU/M and the car wouldn't start so I figured my R2 relay was shot, but not dead.
So I then took a chance on testing something and snipped the thick gauge red wire going to the fan and now when I turn on the AC the low fan works as normal and the high obviously doesn't kick in as that was snipped.
So my question is could it have been the R2 RELAY that was causing the low fan not to run but just the high? as it seems the resistor is working perfectly?
Secondly is there any harm if it stays that way besides if the car gets to hot and I don't have a high speed fan?
I will be ordering the necessary relays if that is the cause of my low fan and rejoining the high speed fan but just couldn't figure out why the low speed fan was dead until we snipped the high speed fan line.
Any comments will be greatly appreciated.
Ps the AC it seems doesn't get that cold like in my previous vehicles and it takes a while even on recirculate to cool down.
Is it because this car was meant for the UK market which is a colder climate and hardly gets that hot?
Look forward to your guys comments and views.
