2011 MCS (Squeaky Engine Bay Sound) Video Inside...

Trying to determine what's causing the sound. The car has currently has about 1,500 miles. It only does it on occasions and mostly when the car is warm / operating temperature. It doesn't do it on cold starts and the a/c doesn't affect the sound. I've been researching and some have said it's the water pump. Car is under full warranty, just wondering as to what it can be to tell my service advisor.

It's pretty easy to hear though I'm not sure what it is. I think I would take it to the dealer and see if they can sort it out.

Water pump would be my first guess as well. Seems like a lot of those are failing on the late-model cars... Bad batch...?

I would say water pump. Mine made the same noise. There is a bulletin on it.

I've got posts about this over on Mini2.com.

I watched your video - that's your waterpump. Noise is present when engine has been run and is at operating temperature. Noise disappears when engine revved above idle rpms and when driving. Noise emanates from the left hand side of the car (standing in front of the car) from the area of the timing chain. Had the same issue with my Clubman. Waterpump replaced under warranty. Three months after replacement, it's on it's way out again. I know that sound well.

Get your dealer to book it for service and make sure they flush the coolant from the entire system. Small debris will damage the replacement pump and you'll end up like me needing another one in a few months.
