Coolant leak; what type of coolant do I need, and where to get it?

Discovered a puddle under my R50, and low-and-behold my expansion tank is almost bone dry. I just moved to CO and don't have a mechanic yet, and the Mini dealer already went home for the day. D

Would anyone happen to know what type of coolant I need specifically, and also where can I typically find that in a town? I'm not dumb enough to go to Walmart and just put Prestone in the car.

I'm guessing I have a leak maybe around the coolant tank hose? Anywhere else you'd recommend I check?

Would really appreciate your help board members!

You can try a BMW Dealer as Minis use the same coolant.

In the interim Distilled Water, not tap water, would suffice.

Hope this helps...

Any premium coolant, 50/50, NOT DEXCOOL.

Note: Some different colored coolants you can't combine for top off purposes.

After some research on NAM, I went with Zerex.
A likely suspect is your thermostat gasket. See instructions and descriptions here.

+1 on Zerex. I got mine at a local NAPA. My leak turned out to be a leaking thermostat gasket.
