Now am I safe leaving the battery connected now cause the pumps dead? I was thinking that cause it would stay on before so it has that hot lead so am afraid that maybe it being shorted out insiode that's there a possablitiy of a fire or some type of damage.

Well, the new pump will not be "dead" and you will be connecting that one with the power on. Besides, it will take all of 2 minutes to disconnect the battery to avoid any accidental damage, why not just do it?
