Passenger Front Window Motor Issues

Hello all, my wifes 2003 mini cooper s front passenger side window just recently quit working. The unit gets power from the switch as it clicks as if it should work but there is no movement what so ever. THe window just stays up all the time. Any ideas on what this could be?

Have you tried it multiple times? Ive run into the exact same problem with my 04 MCS. It wont work for a good 2 hours and then it will just suddenly start working again. Might be the window regulator?

Use the "Fonzie" method. With the door open, ball up your fist and give it a whack right above the large speaker on the door. Have the switch on and after the smack, toggle down the window. Should work after that. Good luck!

Well I have to say. The "Fonz" method worked like a charm. I would have never thought to do that. Is there any idea why this method works and why you have to do it to get it to work?

Glad the "Fonzie" worked for you. There is a contact that is stuck inside the door and by whacking it, it either opens or closes (don't know which). I have had to do this occasionally over the years to my 04' MCS ---

Amazing! Mine just quit working yesterday and a smack is all I did to bring it back after finding this thread!

Well, the passenger side window regulator was always not working too well after the first two years. It sometimes forgets to retract or extend when door is opened or closed.

In the long run, will replacing the window regulator help?

Bentley should add this fix to their Service Manual.

Happened again last night.

I smacked it 5 times, didn't work.

Then kept on driving, until I hit a regular road bump, it went back to normal.

I'm afraid that this is just temporary fix and will get worse in the long run.

What's the real solution? Can I open the door trim and rebuild/enhance it?

Prior to the "bump" fix, I tried to remove the door panel screws, but the panel would not easily pop out, so I stopped before creating a mess. I'm going to see how long the fix works. Sorry I can't help.

My 02 MCS did it for years. Never seemed to get any worse. Sometimes it would work for months with no problems, sometimes it would quit, work for a few minutes then not work again. But it always worked again each time.

Hahaha it worked for me too! I can't believe it. Wish I would have searched this morning.

Does the window ever get stuck in the down position, or is this problem only while it is up?

For me, only when it was in the up position.

I had to hit the door about 20 times and was worried what it was doing to my speaker, BUT...it worked! Thanks so much for the info!

Wow, my wife has been complaining for the past month about this. I should have come here a long time ago. Thanks!
