Engine Failure in 2011 Countryman

Previous issue with engine failure light escalated to complete stall on the freeway with 1/4 tank of gas. Rescued by friends prior to the towing all the way back to the dealer; however, serious issue. Car at dealer for a fuel pump replacement which is only available from Germany and will take 10 to 12 days to get.

Thank you to all the previous posts about this problem; it helped me explain it to the dealer and prepared me for the worst case scenario. I am in a loaner, but am ever so sad to not be motoring with my new wheels.

Thought others might want to know, just in case.

Not sure I would call that an "engine failure" since it was just a part on the engine that failed. Engine failure to me is something like a cylinder crashing through the engine block or something along those lines. Anyway, hope it does turn out to be just a simple fuel pump problem.

OP how many miles have you driven your Countryman?

I agree with Benibiker, not an engine failure but a component failure which is another orange versus the apple.

Sorry your having issues, we turned over 4K on our recent trip to Scotts Bluff with our local MINI group.

How's this for engine failure. Our 06 Cooper S Convertible w/ 71k which my fiance once loved threw a connecting rod which ruined the engine. All service done at dealer as scheduled and $2700 spent onsuspension problems 2 months ago. $9000 to put in a rebuilt engine or the dealer offered a wopping $4500 for it and Mini USA has repeatedly denied any fault on their part as well as any assistance. Sucks and she wanted countryman next but never again will we buy from Mini/BMW

You are expecting MINI to pay for a blown motor when you have 21,000 miles past the warranty?

Not entirely just a little help for some folks that once had 3 mini's in the family and did nothing wrong to cause this. Maybe give us a used engine something instead of just sorry you are screwed. My buddy bought a used mercedes, from a private party that as out of warranty, and when the tranny went at least they stood behind their product enough to gie him a tranny. Our situation is just unexpected from a luxury car company.

After about 3 weeks of sending emails to Mini Executives, I was happy to be told that Mini will cover half of the 9k to put in a factory rebuilt engine. Still a bumber but I am very pleased with Mini USA for stepping up and helping out. Just goes to show you the squeaky wheel gets the grease atleast sometimes.
