so help me out here

Greetings....new to the forum. Quick background. My son bought a 06 MCS about 6 months ago and I really like that car. I've been hunting for a 05-06 MCS w/ no sunroof, chrono and LSD so I can autox and wear a helmet in the car (I'm very tall in the upper body so no sunroof). No luck yet on finding that combo.

Last week a friend of mine offered me his 09 MCS that has 7800 miles (yes, that's correct) for ~18k, that's well below NADA. Just what I needed, no sunroof, LSD and sports package. I've been reading over this forum and the timing chain issue scares the hell out of me. Granted this mini I'm looking at has 2 years left on the warranty, but after that, I'd probably sell the car.

So riddle me this Batman.... Has anyone on this forum had good luck w/ the r56 cars and reported no issues w/ the timing chain? The recurring theme here is making sure the oil is changed often and kept full to keep the tensioner taught. I keep seeing the chain rail come into the picture as well. I'm really at a cross roads here on buying this car.

Please tell me that MANY of you have actually had no issues and have a higher mileage r56. I'd love to hear of no issues on 60K plus mile r56 mini's.

Do they exist?

At 64k here on my r56 and no timing chain issues *cross fingers* I did have the hpfp issue but that's under an extended 10 year warranty anyway... As it has been stated many times before, the majority of what you read online or on this forum is of the problems with these cars. People aren't as eager to post about their flawless car as they are about a problem that arises instead. I'm in love with my 2007 MCS. Just my $0.02

So far, so good with mine. But mine has turned into a garage queen, with somewhere around 12k on the clock, if that muddies the decision waters for you any...

52k on my 2k9 Justa and it's been flawless.

Like someone else said, people are more apt to post when they have problems, so it looks like the car has a lot of issues. It's like looking at a review site of a business...people are more apt to leave a review if they've has a crappy time.

I 100% agree w/ your comment. I'm more apt to leave a negative statement over a positive. If I'm happy w/ something, I'm not necessarily going to leave a comment on it. If it's broke, I'm going to make a post and I want to see who has the same issue and what they did to fix it.

I had a chance to look at the car this evening and there is nothing wrong w/ it. I've known the seller for 10+ years, so if there was something wrong, I'm sure he'd let me know. With only 7800 miles on the car, it's already had one oil change when it went into the dealer for a checkup.

I think I'm 90% sure I'm going to plunk my money down and buy the car. Decent combo. It's all black w/ the exterior chrome package and has the black cloth and red leather bolsters on the seats. Standard climate control, cold weather package, iPod hook up and LSD. I didn't know that the new mini's also had the electronic speedo in the rev counter, so that's a nice touch. I also like the key fob that inserts into the dash. Not as cumbersome to carry as the key/fob combo as in my son's 06 mini, a little easier on the pocket.

He's also had the factory mini roof rack installed. That will be nice to carry my 10x10 canopy on top of the car and stuff the wheels/tires in the back for the autox's next year. A lot of pluses to this car in its current state.

Sounds like a good car for you. With the warranty not up for two years you may just want to see if your dealer will do the timing change part changes any way. Some will some will not.

BTW mine was done with just under 30K on the car and the car now has 88+K and is running just fine.

As for the HPFP it should be covered for 100k miles check with your local dealer to be sure.
