Dip Stick

Anyone else find the dip stick ridiculously hard to read?

Is there a solution to make it readable?

Perhaps a little red dye #2 in the old crankcase...

My oil certainly isn't dirty yet. I want to see if the levels are right, but it is really impossible to do that right now with this blessed dip stick.

How do you know what the right level is?

I've found that I have to dry the end of the stick completely and make sure the car is level. Hold the stick in for about 30 sec. and pull out and you will be able to see the level that is wet. Hope that helps!

Also, rotate the dipstick while looking...sometimes just a different light angle helps....

Perhaps MINI Quality Assurance, once reviewing this thread, might be able to easily make the change in future MINIs and suggest some solution for current owners. How 'bout it MINI?
