Ad me to the list

Sigh, my 06 S (delivery date Feb 07) with < 39k miles recently coughed up it's pass side motor mount. Not unexpected but still kinda crummy.

Mileage wise the car has over 11k miles left on it's warranty but alas because the time officially expired end of Feb, MINI is not interested in doing anything about the part. Also not unexpected but also pretty crummy.

Called 866-ask-mini anyway at dealer's suggestion. MINI says this part is a normal wear item! Come on MINI, that's garbage. Motor mounts shouldn't "wear out" with such regularity on such young cars, especially one that's been so babied... well maybe if it was a 70's era A1 chassis VW...

I really like the car but MINI wasn't even interested in discussing a compromise - they do the part, I do the labor, something.

Not what I'd call sterling customer service. Not even a little...

Edit:
John at greasy's in Ma said he'd never seen one fail quite so catastrophically (i guess cause it didn't weep out the side at all just gushed it's guts right out the bottom) and this explains the lovely buzzz in the car at idle/low speed)

You can make your own compromise. Go somewhere else for the work. It is a simple surgery. The price will be the same or less than any dealer price, even including consideration.

what should the part cost? seems fairly cheap (considering) online - between $60 and $80. Looks like 30mins of work? More?

30mins is not an unreasonable estimate. If you buy the part, you may even find someone to do it free. It is an extremely basic part swap. You might even find the "Girls guide to mount replacement" in the DIY section. With $150 worth of tools/stands and a jack, many many things can be done in a driveway. This is one of the easiest. Ask around to the handy folks you interact with in your life. Watch what they do and maybe you will try the next one.

Removing the mount may be one of the first steps of a larger operation. You can look around and see.

I feel your pain. Just had to have the seals in my supercharger replaced due to an oil leak and I am also just out of warranty. Tried the same actions you did to no avail so my revenge was to do all the work myself and shop for parts online. Saved a lot of money on parts and learned how to take the whole front of the car apart to replace the supercharger. Also took the time to replace spark plugs, front brake rotors and pads, plug a leak in my tire and clean up the front of the engine. Good times. MINI will lose more in my future purchases then it would have cost to repair under a courtesy warranty.

Exactly! A woman at work was asking how I like my car - I like it a lot but when she started musing about getting one, I didn't encourage her because it was right after I had been through my fruitless/frustrating call with MINI.

Probably MINI doesn't care about a sale here or there given the millions sold but... seems bad business to me

Re do-it-myself, good idea. Generally I do, not at home with garage and tool access unfortunately. Isn't that always the way, the car is fine till it goes on the road trip..
