Headliner coming unglued around edges - anybody???

I was looking at a Mini 2005 today that had the headliner coming unglued around the edges. Has anyone else experienced this?
What did you use to glue it back up?
It appears the original owner tried something but it didn't work.

This is a very common problem that affects almost all BMW's & Mini's.
The glue that the factory uses breaks down after a number of years.
If you live in a hot climate that will also effect the glue.
The only CORRECT thing to do is remove headliner and either reglue it or replace the headliner completely.
Don't fool yourself that you can reglue it will headliner is in place.
There is a thread on how to remove & replace the headliner as a DIY project.
Most upholstery shops charge $250-350 to do the job.

05 mini

my 05 mini has a headliner problem it coming down and the dealer refuses to help fix it saying out site influences caused this? I said WHAT!! this is a defect in craftsmanship! no way a car that is 7/8 year old should be having this problem. has anyone had the dealer help them after the warranty is out. this vehicle also came with water leaks in the front and back windows causing fogging on the inside and frost in the winter. I will not give up getting them to fix it.

I have, but the car was only out of warranty for less than a year and it was at Mercedes-Benz. Maybe try another dealer?

Pretty common not just w/ Bimmers & Minis, but w/ most euros. Looks like headliner glue gets affected by temp & humidity. Glue is most probably waterbased. I've yet to see this happen on *** imports of same age as our MINIs.

It also did help to have a helpful SA, otherwise I would've been pretty much SOL at the dealer.

This problem is common with ALL cars that have the soft foam backed headliner. There is no fix other than taking the fiberglass board out, pull the fabric off and use a stiff brush to clean the old foam off it. Pick up 1.5 to 2 yds of 54" foam backed headliner and some contact cement and go to town. I am sure there is a youtube video of the process

Amazing that a person would ask a dealer to warrenty this on a car about 3x out of warrenty....remember 3yr/36000 miles on an '05 for mx and 4 yr and 45k (i think) for the parts...car was likly delivered in late 04 or first half of 05....
Many non-mini's have similar issues....it is just a charistic of the foam/glue headliner....
Owning a car has expenses...can can cost a few $$, just be an adult, and spend the $" to have it fixed or diy it. To proclaim something on an 8 year old car should be fixed by the dealer for free is kinda juvenile. Sorry for the rant, but sometimes, energy is best spent fixing an issue rather than fuming about it.

it's the principle of the matter you pay good money for a vehicle and something like this happens!!! no other vehicle I owned had this problem cars in junk yards don't have this problem. I offered a comprise still they refuse. why shouldn't mini or any other car manufacturer be held accountable if this is a known fact in their vehicles?!?!?!? they claimed outside influences then normal wear and usage?
