Speedometer not working correctly
Speedometer not working correctly
So my speedometer is not working all of a sudden. The needle rests at about 40mph when the car is turned off. Is it as simple as pulling the speedometer apart and resetting the needle? My real question is to why this happened so I can prevent it from happening again. The image below is me cruising at about 70 mph.
Whoa! That's the weirdest electronic gremlin I've seen so far on a MINI!
First I would try to power cycle the battery by removing the negative for a few minutes, if that does not help then I would try a Computer reset through the on-board diagnostic mode (sorry, I don't have the link at hand but search the forums for procedure) and lastly I would take apart the speedo and see if that can be manually adjusted somehow.
Good luck!

Sorry for double posting but it just figured that if MINIs where meant to fly (and I mean to literally fly like airplanes!), the FAA would have recalled the Airworthy Certificate a long time ago!
There are simply too much electronic gremlins, unpredictable pump failures (reminiscent of aileron actuator failures on old 767), bad fans (pun intended), glitches and bad software to make them safe to fly!
So thank you BMW for not building airplanes for us!
PS- This is not a rant, and don't get me wrong, I LOVE MY MCS !!!

First try an electronic reset as Rayanmx suggested.
If that doesn't work and the needle is pointing at a constant offset of about 40 mph, you can physically rezero it. Look at these instructions: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...with-pics.html. The needle is normally attached very firmly and I can't imagine how it could have slipped.

This problem has become kind of interesting. The needle seems to slowly be correcting itself. I noticed yesterday that is was only about 15 mph off. And then today on my way to work it was only 2-3 mph off. To me this seems like a mechanical problem with the needle itself and it is slowly working its way free of what ever is making it stick. Hopefully it will be 100% correct by tomorrow.
