Fluid Leak

My car was sitting in the garage for a couple of days because of the sudden snow fall and I noticed a large pool of blue thin oil below the engine. I opened the power steering reservoir and it was empty, it seems that the all the fluid leaked on my garage floor. I’m trying to locate the leak. It’s not from the bottom of the reservoir where the hose connects. Then I raised the car a bit and took a look at the other end of the hose and that too seemed ok. My question is where did the fluid leak from? Is it from the pump?

You just have to find it...
Things can fail many ways...
The pump, the hoses (low or high preassue)
The seals on the rack..
Nobody can track it down for ya!!
Sorry, just the truth!!

If you clean up the area, then turn the car on, and have a helper turn the wheel...watch...then turn the car off, look for fresh fluid! It might help.

If it's a blue fluid it's prob coolant, check the thermostat.

Its from the power steering reservoir since it is empty and if i dare to move the steering wheel it kind of stumbles and makes ALOT of noise. I guess im whishing that the leak is not from the pump since it is so expensive. Do pumps leak or do they just die. If researched around on this forum and i don't have any "symptoms" of a failing pump (sudden loss of power steering, or the power steering pump fan working when the car is off)

Then your car is running DEX-COOL long life antifreeze...
BMW/Mini stuff is blue, and is a special...a bit of a hybird of technologies...
Dexcool is not reccomened by even is manufacture on cars that are not equipped with it from the factory...it has causes many issues in many cars....including a class action lawsuit if I remember right...
The PS fluid, when new is kinda greenish/blueish...
I second the check the coolant...the color of the P's fluid changes pretty quick....

The fact the op said it was oil like...not watery makes me think it is possibly the P's fluid...
Put some fresh fluid in, and see where the fluid leaks out!!

xristos,
Any luck? I just had the same situation. Moved my MC and found oil patch on driveway. PS pump reservior empty. Purchased new fluid ($20 qt, ouch). Have local mechanic looking at right now. Zeroing in on clamp around the plastic reservior attached directly to the pump (not the reservior located on firewall near top of engine bay.

One of the clamps was loose or needed replacement. NOT from the reservoir to the pump, a clamp after the pump.

This might help....

xristos,
Just got mine back. Hose Clamp (part #3211113134) at pump on hose leading from reservoir was loose. Mechanic cut clamp and replaced with new hose clamp. Tightened, cleaned, all done. Steering nice and smooth again. $75.00 labor. Plus the $20 I paid to buy the CHF 11S fluid.
Hope this helps others.
