Funny Starting Problem!

Hi all, i am new to this forum.......and sorry about my English I am typing this all the way from Asia, i own a 2002 R53 just bought the car 3 months ago, i bought the car with "the problem" and at the time I only through it only needed a service to clear the problem.

Already searched the forums and couldn’t find anyone with a similar problem.

So “the problem”…………..
My Mini is always difficult to start the engine no matter if the engine is cold/warm, I had to hold the key in the starting position for 10 seconds or more for the engine to start, it can always start but just take times. Already give it a good service i.e. changed all plugs, oils, and filters, and checked battery and alternator.

the reason why I said it is a funny start issue is because after I have driven it for 3 months I have just found if I leave the car parked for long enough (i.e. at least two night or more), then it can always start with one click, which then doesn’t have the problem, and starts as good as a normal car, but same issue again on the next start………so any advice?

I have a funny feeling somewhere in the engine must be “wet” and takes more then 48 hours to dry up??? But where could it be??? Are Injectors possibly?

Thanks for your help!

Loose battery connection (retighten them), dirty battery terminals (clean and re-tight), starter is going bad? Battery area has water in its compartment?

Do you happen to read the sticky above somewhere on the cold starting issues?

thanks steve,

already read the sticky above "on the cold starting issues", but in my case it happen in both cold/warm engine, even happen after i drove for 30 mins then turn off the engine and restart striaght away.

already check the electic and could find anything wrong, it just seems something or somewhere is wet and need over 24 hours to dry up, any others suggestions?
