Brecht has german V36?
Is this real? They claim that mini sent them the german version of the software accidentally and it won't work in my car? Are they just trying to get out of installing the new software? Shouldn't the german version work in my car, if they really do have it?
(Every day, someone on NAM posts something that confirms that MINI dealers are home to some of the biggest morons in the auto industry today...)
The German version of CD 36 is the version that currently exists. It works fine in all MINIs, but in order to install it, the dealer has to dedicate one of their BMW diagnostic computers to run the German version of Windows. Some dealers do not wish to do this (e.g., some dealers only have one computer and can't dedicate another to this task)...and that's why these dealers are not installing CD 36. At those dealers, customers are turned away and/or their ECUs are being shipped to BMW HQ in NJ for the upgrade (where a BMW diagnostic computer running German Windows is not apparently a problem).
So, your dealer is either lying to you about why they don't want to install CD 36...OR they really are stupid enough to think that MINI sent the wrong CD. Either way, wait a couple of weeks and apparently the USA CD36 will be available. I was told by my dealer that BMW wants to see whether CD 36 actually works before producing the USA version. As has been testified to on several NAM threads...it works.
Good grief...

I just talked to Dan at Crevier and he said come to him and he will do the V36 upgrade -- takes about an hour to three hours depending on your computer. Easy to get to --take 5 north to 55 east or south (I forget how it is named) to the Eddinger exit (about 1/2 mile) be in right lane on off ramp and goes straight into the mall. Crevier is first dealer on left.

To be fair, one has to wonder why BMW would distribute German software to their American dealer network. I used to have a very high regard for BMW -- until I purchased my MCS. My recent experience with 3 BMW/MINI dealers with something as trivial as trying to get my "convenience options" to work has been abysmal -- certainly not confidence inspiring. There seems to be a serious lack of training and/or technical support -- both of which are symptomatic of lousy management. They definitely don't appear to heve their act together.
