I know this is a silly question but I have been given so many different answers from "official" sources that I really don't know what to believe any more. How long is the standard warranty on a 2003 MINI Cooper purchased in the USA? I didn't get any extra extended warranty or maintenance or anything like that. I have been told by several different people at the dealership (sales and management and mechanics) that it is either 2 year/24K miles or 4/48 or 3/36 or 2/36. Which is it???
AND what exactly does the standard warranty cover? is it just the drivetrain? what about my sunroof? does it cover trim pieces that fall off or break? What about the clear protective coat thing they put on the nose of my car at the dealer? Once again I've gotten different answers from the dealer. Is there anyone at MINI I can contact to get a printed warranty with details? I've only had the car for 3 months and I have 6000 miles on it already so I need to figure out what I've got before it runs out.

Let me get this straight... You asked people at the dealer and no one could tell you the specifications of the warranty?? I stand by my earlier comment.

Check the MINIUSA site. The warranty is 4yr/50k miles (and 3/36 free maintenance).

Don't know where you're located, but if possible, I think you might want to go to a different dealer. Giving you the run-around over a straightforward question like this doesn't speak well of their intentions for honoring a warranty without hassles.

Your Sales person should merely look in any standard MINI brochure to find that the warranty is-
4-year/50,000 mile New passenger car limited warranty and a 6 year/ unlimited-mileage warranty against rust and corrosion perforation.

Full scheduled maintenance- covered for 3 years/ 36,000 miles and is determined by the service interval indicator.

What does vary is the extended warranty terms and length beyond the normal warranty period. I have seen all sorts of prices and lengths of warranty from one to 5 extra years.

The 4 year warranty is a bumper to bumper warranty on all items of your car at the time of purchase. Anything added on after you take delivery is not included. For example if you took your MINI and there was no roof rack but then added it a month later then it is not covered for 4 years but if you ordered the MINI with roof rack but they did not have the parts in stock and you took delivery but you paid for the roof rack at the time of purchase and they installed it a month late then it is covered. Sunroof and all parts are covered as is radio and all electronics.

Things that are not covered are tires/tire rotation, battery, brake pads, air filter, etc that are affected by how you drive the car.
